The site may be un-available during saturday evening/night starting from 21.00 (gmt+1) due to database maintenance, software-updating and the adding of a new feature.
I’m sending out an email about this now. The chat will be available through-out this time.
Edit: The update seem to have went fine! You should also take a peek at the new “add to”-service that was installed tonight. Now you can add your own or others’ threads to services such as digg and del.icio.us. (see screenshot below)

So, I’ve been getting quite a few questions on what I and the whole team behind the site are doing and now I’m seizing the opportunity to tell you about what happens behind the scenes of Soulreaper.net!
First off I’m sorry to say that you are becoming disappointed now, as there are no juicy behind the scenes activities. The moderator-team does have some discussions on matters regarding the site, but these are mostly about site-improvements, criticism (positive/negative) and purely technical matters.
The moderators’ job is to keep the site clean and move/close topics and posts as the moderators see appropriate. The first level moderators’ job is also to notify the senior moderator / administrator about users (read: spambots) that needs to be banned, and then, if necessary, the IP-addresses will be denied access to the site by the administrator. I also disable usernames that I know are spambots of different kinds, as there are ways to detect this before they even cause any damage.
What the administrator also does, beside keeping this site clean from vermin is to do all the coding necessary to add new features and keeping the server ticking as it should.
Another important aspect to this site is that we have certain methodologies in place which protects all members against spam coming through the site (including private messages) as well as protecting the members’ personal information to always be safe and not leave the realms of this site. The later includes IP and email-addresses.
I hope that this post explained quite a few things regarding the daily upkeep of all our’s Soulreaper.net.
Cheerio!

This is a short note to tell you that I have moved the fileserver from one place to another. If there are any problems with the hosted files, then please let me know either here on the blog or at the forum.
Thanks

I’m happy to say that “Reyna” now is a member of the team behind Soulreaper.net!
She’ll be helping out with moderating posts and keeping our site clean and healthy!

If you want to search through the site’s content; surf to http://soulreaper.net/register.php and register your own unique username to join the fun!
Thank you.

Lately I’ve been terribly busy with work and I haven’t been able to do certain things related to the site. These things include re-encoding the Anathema bootleg from Chile as well as re-encoding and uploading Ross’ Audio-files from Scala where Anathema did a gig recently.
Sorry about that guys!
Something totally non-related with the above; Yesterday we had one of the worst blizzards in a long time here in Sweden. At some locations it fell close to and above 1 meter of snow during 24 hours. Shovling snow gets old I tell you

We aren’t moving to a new datacenter anytime soon, as I wrote here.
As most of you visitors come from Europe, I think it is a good idea if the server hosting Soulreaper.net is located in Europe and as close to a central peering point as possible. The current hosting is located in London, so it is “as good as it gets”, network topological-wise.
Further more, the host as well as this host’s net-providers seem to have gotten over their past troubles. There’s been 2 outages related to a switch going down in the host’s datacenter, and then the second outage had to do with the server-host’s netprovider which suffered from a major power outage in the UK-area (the UPS didn’t manage to keep their core network up for the extent of time of the power being out).
I hope that you’ll continue to enjoy the forum, it’s community-feel as well as it’s speed and features!

As posted over at the forum, we are moving the site to a new datacenter.
The move has already started, as we have switched DNS-servers. What is left to do is to double-check all settings on the new server as well as creating and restoring a full backup from the files as well as the database.
I hope the transition will go as smooth as possible, meanwhile the site is being moved we’ll keep you posted on this blog.
Cheers and thanks everyone - you are great!

The domain Soulreaper.net is “lost” for the moment because the domain name was moved to another registrar, which in this case meant that they wrote over the DNS-servers set for Soulreaper.net - rendering them pointing to a “black hole”. The actual site is up and running without any problems.
As soon as your ISPs DNS-servers have updated, you’ll see the site as normally. This usually shouldn’t happen, but in this case it did and I apologize for this - even if it was out of my hands this time.
When you no longer see this page and is directed to Soulreaper.net it is working as it should.
