A big reason to this is that the current theme isn't fully compatible with the newer codebase. Regarding changing theme, at the start it won't be possible. This is because of the time it takes to maintain updates for the individual themes and how the rest of the site will fit into it. There will be subscription option though. Will the new layout colour hotlinked words more visibly? In the present layout URLs masked with text are not well distinguishable.
